Donation to the Unnaer-Tafel e.V.
At the Aluminiumwerk Unna AG Christmas party on the 16th December not only were the 201 employees present but also 185 guests mainly from our external service providers. Through the recommendation from the employees a donations piggy bank was announced for everyone to fill, the benefits going to the Unnaer-Tafel e.V (German organisation for free food distribution for people in need). The first reactions – apart from the spontaneous applause when the idea was announced – were congratulations to the organisers for implementing the idea and the associated dedication. After numerous successful years there was a desire from all guests to consider others who are less fortunate. After counting the donations the Management rounded the figure up and we are pleased to announce that on December 21st Frau Trümper from the Unnaer-Tafel e.V received a cheque for 5000 Euros.

Christmas Party 2011
On the 16.12.2011, Aluminiumwerk Unna AG invited its employees and guests to close a successful 2011 harmoniously with a party. The location was the modern Despatch Building which had been cleared to make room for a compact Christmas Market. Along with the buffet and the popular Christmas Rucksack filled this year with local specialities, the re-introduction of the Tombola was welcomed. With great anticipation the draw for the attractive prizes was closely followed. These were donated by Deutsche Leasing, Weingut Graeber, Nationalbank, Stadtwerke Unna, Lamifil, Broncos GmbH, Schulte Verpackungen, Global GmbH, Volksfürsorge, Carus, Winner Spedition, PwC and Aluminiumwerk Unna e.V.
The CEO Volker Findeisen emphasised in his speech the uniqueness of the project “Aluminiumwerk” and the resulting responsibility to others. He announced a Collection for the Unnaer-Tafel e.V (German organisation for free food distribution for people in need) which had been initiated by employees. A blue “ALUnna” piggy bank will help hopefully collect a large donation upto the 19.12.11.

New Lead Times
Dear customer,
We informed you recently about the planned start on the 4.10.2011 of our new IT-programme INFOR for the production and work planning depts.
Henceforth it is possible for us to use the programme to investigate alternative planning scenarios. These not only consider the standard plan but allow a modus “optimal shortest lead time”. Additionally from summer 2012 onwards we have integrated into our production capacity the new Press 114 which is currently under construction. Using these aids we have now been able to screen our order book and realise the frequently spoken request from our customers to significantly shorten the lead times.
For all products produced on our presses 106, 110, 113 we now currently offer lead times of 8 weeks ex works. For products produced on the P111 (50MN) we are currently working on a significant improvement. Today we are able to offer you 26 weeks ex works for all products produced upon this press connected to the hope that this will be considerably reduced in due course.
Should you require further information please contact your usual partner in our company,
Yours faithfully,
Aluminiumwerk Unna AG

A new IT system for the production
Part of the agreed investment programme from 2009 was a change in the IT system. This will be implemented by the 4/10/2011. After the change to the IT landscape on the hardware side around the end of 2010, it's now the turn of the production planning and production control areas. The implementation of the new system will, for instance, allow a better co-ordination between production planning and the available capacity on differing machinery.
We wish all parties success with the changeover.

The additional 40-MN extrusion press assembly: Planning phase completed
As part of the investment plan declared in 2009, the Board of Directors agreed in December 2010 to commence assembly of the additional 40MN extrusion press. In the subsequent planning phase diverse preliminary investigations and intensive discussions with suppliers concerning this development were successfully completed. The result was that in WK 29 the relevant application for construction permit was made to the authorities. A partial approval is expected by WK 37 which will enable the excavation of the extrusion press foundations to commence in WK38. All trades required for the press assembly have already been assigned.
Alongside the press installation further construction activities will be implemented. It is planned to extend the existing extrusion plant building. The new sample and tooling pickling bath, tooling shop and press hydraulics will be sited here. Additionally, the accompanying changes in infrastructure are running to schedule.
The initial commissioning of the press is planned for the end of May 2012. As soon as a regular construction activity is achieved the additional capacity will naturally be planned into our production scheduling.
This will certainly relieve the lead times which have climbed strongly over the past months/weeks.
We wish all those involved in the implementation of the project success and Good Luck.

Press release
The Captain is leaving the Bridge…
……..but will continue to steer the ship!
The Aluminiumwerk Unna AG Board of Non Executive Directors had their regular meeting last week and didn’t only ascertain that the Annual Results for 2010 were a success.
The Agenda also included Personnel questions. Specifically the appointment of the Executive Board of Directors for the period after the current appointments for both Thomas Wiese and Volker Findeisen run out on the 31.3.2012.
After almost 30 years on board and approaching 10 of those on the Executive Board of Directors Bridge, Thomas Wiese has implemented his long standing announcement. Anyone who wasn’t quick enough over the last decade, had to hear of his dream: he wanted to leave when 40 years old. With only 5 years delay this time has now come and Thomas Wiese will leave the Executive Board of Directors. This departure was in the same breath formally a new start too.
Through the premature passing of the long standing Non Executive Board member Winfried Stockmann on 14.11.2010, the question was raised, who his successor should be. Thomas Wiese has offered his services for this position. At the Annual Shareholder Assembly on 16.6.2011 in the Hotel Katharinenhof he should be confirmed in the role from the Shareholders. Therewith he will change from the operational level of the Executive Board to the level which supervises the Executive Board.
Furthermore, Thomas Wiese has stated his willingness to continue supporting the company, with a greatly reduced work schedule, in Tariff and Personnel issues. He will cease his current Executive Board activities on the 30.4.2011 and commences his new ones on 1.5.2011. He will remain the focal point of contact for employees, Union and the local organisations.
Thomas Wiese first informed the management team of the changes and immediately afterwards through a special meeting all of the company employees, explained his personal reasons for the change.
The Aluminiumwerk Unna AG employees and Management thank Mr. Wiese for his exceptional commitment and the great merit which his restructuring and strategic re-orientation of the company deserves.
The Non Executive Board of Directors also confirmed in their meeting of 7.4.2011 that Volker Findeisen will continue as sole Member of the Executive Board of Directors for a further five years until 31.3.2017.

Press release
Today the Aluminiumwerk Unna AG board of directors have released the annual statement for the financial year 2010.
After the difficulties in 2009, the turnover increased by 38,4 % to 74.643 Mio Euros. The pre tax income has improved by 408 % to 4.855 Mio Euros.
This was also possible thanks to the fact that Aluminiumwerk Unna AG has set its focus on their employees during the difficult year 2009. Parallel to the decision not to implement short-time work or reduce the workforce, there was investment made in further education and at some strategic positions the teams have been reinforced. After the revival of the consumer market at the end of 2009 it was possible to start straight through in 2010.
By providing this annual statement for 2010, including 2.922 Mio Euros capital investment, the subject “economic crisis” can also be formally closed.
For 2011 all signs point towards consolidation and growth. With the result for the first quarter and the very good capacity utilisation for the rest of the year, and despite the significant cost increase for energy, personal and commodities, a solid positive result can be expected for 2011.
This positive business development is mainly supported by the good prospects in the markets of Electrical engineering, Mechanical and process engineering and aerospace.

Investment program
In the course of the Investment program released in spring 2009, the supervisory board of Aluminiumwerk Unna AG has accepted the installation of the 40MN indirect extrusion press on their regular meeting of Dec 17th 2010. This extrusion press will be built up by the end of 2011 in an already existing building. It can then be used for customer orders at the beginning of 2012. This significant expansion at the Unna site will mainly be used for aerospace orders and projects for the motorcycling sector. The currently very long lead times for seamless tubes can be clearly reduced after the start-up of this extrusion press.
The assembly of a triple drawing bench, which will help to accomplish with the continuous increase of drawn tubes, has also been approved. On short notice a double drawing bench is being installed, basically for small tube sizes required in larger quantities for the aerospace industry.
With these actions taken, all being part of the major Investment program of 2009, we prepare for next years increasing demands announced by our customers.
We take this as an acknowledgement of our successful work over the past years and we are looking forward to new challenges from our consumer markets.

Retirement of Dr. Carl Jackson
Having worked for Aluminiumwerk Unna AG for many years, Dr. Carl Jackson will be leaving at the end of this year to enter into his well deserved retirement. His experiences in the field of Aluminium, gathered during his very long career, were invaluable for the company. Especially during the development of the product segment "copier drums" his expertise was very much asked for.
For this reason in particular but also for all his other efforts, we would once again like to thank him very much. Above all we wish Dr. Carl Jackson the best of health for the future.

Press Release
During today’s shareholder meeting, held on the new premises of the company, the Executive Board informed the shareholders of the 2009 company results.
The sales volume dropped by 37 %. However, considering last years world economic situation, the net operating profit after taxes with 922,000 Euros was acceptable.
As part of last years investment program, new employees were strategically positioned and the existing employees were further qualified. At the end of 2008 the Executive Board gave an employment guarantee and a renouncement of short- time work. In the meantime this guarantee has been extended until the end of 2011.
The shareholders meeting took place in a new building at the Unna site. Following the shareholders meeting, all employees and shareholders inaugurated the new building before leaving it to its final utilisation.
The current situation in 2010 is very positive. Order income and production have not quite reached the level before the crisis, but, after all, 25 % above budget for 2010. As the operating results are also significantly improving, the Executive Board can give a positive forecast for this year.

Increasing demand for aluminum tubes
After a drastic decline in sales due to the banking crisis in 2009, we have recognized a noticeable increase of customer demand for our products in the first six months of 2010. As part of the continuously high order income from January to June 2010, the degree of capacity utilisation rose considerably. In order to still offer our customers delivery times in an acceptable time frame, Aluminiumwerk Unna AG has reacted to this increasing demand by creating elaborate shift plans and an equal utilisation of all extrusion presses.
Despite of all taken actions it may still be possible that not all required delivery dates can be confirmed.Particularly in view of the 2nd half of 2010, the permanent surge in demand can lead to longer delivery times. Therefore we kindly ask our customers to support our order processing by giving us long term order schedules.
We are pleased that our products are becoming more and more attractive to our customers and we appreciate the confidence shown to us.

Press release
The Aluminiumwerk Unna AG board of directors can provide some information to the provisional results for the financial year 2009.
The turnover is approximately on third less than last year’s value.
The banking crisis has also taken its toll on Aluminiumwerk Unna AG.
Towards the end of 2008 the company had already guaranteed to keep all personnel employed during 2009 and 2010. Hence the results for 2009 will be slightly negative.
The current economic condition can be described as stable on a very low level.
With a slight increase in turnover we are planning to break- even in 2010.
Due to the problems many companies have financing their Circulating assets and new infrastructure projects; we cannot yet foresee a quick recovery in our consumer markets.
The depression isn’t over yet, so we must show great care in our operational business.
We first expect a clear increase in demand during 2011.
